CHORDS & NUMBERS

March 03

Q: I was looking through a chord lead-sheet I found on Olga.net and it had numbers instead of chords. What do the numbers mean?

B: It could either be the Nashville Number System, Classical Notation, or Jazz Chord Analysis. Either way, the concept is the same. The numbers signify the degrees of the major scale.

Original Chord Progression (key of C):
| C | Am | F | G |

Numeric Analysis:
| 1 | 6m | 4 | 5 |

Transposition into new (key of G):
| G | Em | C | G |
