My Klein Guitar
Published on September 25th, 2006 in Gear, Personal
I have a weird looking guitar. It’s small, contoured and has no headstock. I think it looks like a Stingray; others have said it resembles the Millennium Falcon or “Home Plate.”
My guitar is an ergonomic instrument designed by the luthier Steve Klien (click on one of the links below if you want to learn more about the Klein story). Klein guitars are built with no truss rod. It’s neck is one solid piece of rosewood. The body is swamp ash.
My instrument was built by German Lorenzo and was finished in April of 2005.

Man, been trying to locate Lorenzo German for more info on the current Klein senario. Do you have any info? How did you Klein turn out by the way?
Thanks,
Brian
Brian,
I think Lorenzo has been M.I.A. since late 2005. I had some drama getting mine and it wasn’t in very good shape when it got to me. I had a bum pickup, and the neck had a convex bend and a twist in it. He sent me a new pickup and told me the neck would straighten out with time. He was right. It took a couple months for the neck to find it’s place.
It can be difficult to get in touch with Lorenzo. My biggest frustration with the whole experience was his professionalism. He never sent me an invoice, receipt, or work order. He put a different bridge on than what he sold me (I was supposed to get a fixed; he sent me a s-trem). And I felt like I really had to fight to get my guitar. It was due in November 04 and it was shipped out in April 05. When I received the guitar I was insulted that it was not even remotely close to being set-up. The bass string was high off the fretboard and the treble string was resting on the fretboard. That, plus the above mentioned neck and the pickup problems made the guitar practically unplayable for quite awhile. It took me about a year to get over whole thing.
That being said, I have a nice guitar. I’ve grown very attached to it.

Thanks for the info. It is a beatuful guitar, to bad it was somewhat spoiled by the customer service. Which I find weird because all I’ve read is how great he was at it. We’ll I guess the only way to get a Klein is to find a used one.
Take care,
Brian
…after reading…basically he’s taken alot of deposits and vanished.
