Music Plagiarism Project
Published on January 13th, 2005 in News
Started by law student Charles Cronin, The Music Plagiarism Project documents some of the more famous music copyright disputes with reference files of music clips, reduced scores and excerpts that superimpose the debating melodies to illustrate the cases. Commentaries, historical notes and excerpts from the rulings are also included.
Some of the noteworthy:
- Michael Bolton’s 5.4 million loss to the Isley brothers
- George Harrison’s “My Sweet Lord” vs. “He’s So Fine” by Ronald Mack
- Several suits against corporate jingles
- John Lee Hooker suing ZZ Top for ripping of “La Grange”
- ZZ Top suing Chrysler Corp. for using”La Grange”
- And my favorite: John Fogerty plagiarism of himself
